Betamethasone is a steroid that has the power to relieve inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, severe asthma, and allergic reactions. When administered, it binds to glucocorticoid receptors, enabling the recruitment of coactivators to form a complex that heads to the nucleus. Once there, this complex regulates the transcription of multiple genes, including those responsible for immune response and inflammation. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat severe infections caused by Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. It is unique because it binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting the critical step of protein synthesis known as translocation. This process is necessary for protein maturation. By disrupting this step, essential proteins cannot be synthesized, leading to the death of the bacteria.
