Nebivolol is a unique beta-blocker that operates as a selective β1 receptor blocker, meaning it blocks the beta-1 receptors in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, but acts as an agonist (opposite of a blocker) on the beta-2 receptors in bronchial tissue. Due to its composition, Nebivolol is used to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure, and left ventricular hypertrophy. Additionally, it’s used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
